| Newstalk Student Enterprise Competition - Local Final Stage |
The local final of the Newstalk Student Enterprise Competition will take place in the Conference Centre, Thurles at 3.00pm on Thursday 3rd December and all are welcome to attend.
The competition uses a case study format, designed to foster a spirit of enterprise and allows participants to research real life companies while working as part of a team. It is designed to maximise the learning experience of participating students and is open to all third level students attending the 14 Institutes of Technology, Tipperary Institute and The National College of Ireland. This year over 330 teams have entered the competition.
The national semi-final and final will take place in the National College of Ireland on 31st January and 1st February 2010. Details of the winning local finalist Team in each college will be announced at the proceedings and on the website.
The team that wins the national final will receive a prize of a study trip to the Caribbean, where they will shadow decision makers in the telecommunications company Digicel, which is chaired by Denis O’Brien who is also chairman of Newstalk.

For the local final, students will be given 3 hours to analyse a case study. The 4 teams will give a 30 minute presentation including 10 minutes for questions and answers. The presentations will be given to an audience made up of students, staff and a judging panel. Judging will be conducted by Brian Keating Development Manager Shannon Development, Dr James Griffin Programme Specialist Business Department, Tipperary Institute and Moya Breen Director of Business, Tipperary Institute. The full proceedings of the local final will take approximately 2 ½ hours. The winning team will receive €600 and will represent Tipperary Institute at the national semi-final.
